Annastasia Latex 20130322-022 copy

Annastasia Couture Latex
annastasiacouturelatex.wordpress.com

The collection was inspired by the film; ‘The Fifth Element’ and the music of ‘Die Antwoord’, a South African rap group whose music shocks, but still draws you to listen again – and love. It is a Latex collection designed for the alternative women. Each outfit contrasts two colours, enabling the creation of new shapes which frame the body, with a view to eliciting an inevitable second glance…. and a third.

L2_Cobra_05

by Miles Glyn of Strange-Loop Jewellery
www.strange-loop.com

Mythical, phantasmagoric and visceral, a subtle muted colour palette to soften the strength of the images. I make sculptures, from these I cast, then combine with beads like blood and chains to bind, to create enthralling pieces. I enjoy the narrative in my work and feel inspired by sci-fi and ancient tales, the world of wonder that my little daughter inhabits is a great influence, as is my fine art background and various careers associated with the film industry. I hope to make work that can be art as well as accessories for all genders . . . .

GL1

by Jo Hawtree
www.gunsmokeandlavender.com

‘Walking in our shoes’ (AW 13/14) takes it’s reference from the historic past of psychiatric facilities and the dynamic intensity of the fractured human mind.

Using edgy, dark, inky tones juxtaposed with a textured, draped silhouette, the Gunsmoke and Lavender male is a dark passenger, transcending time, unsettled and unknown. He is beautifully sinister and gracefully insane.

Fractured and abandoned he carves his own path. His dreams as vivacious as the contents of former patients forgotten suitcases, their possessions, once meaningful, soon to belong to an anonymous name.

The garments combine to form powerful, melancholic self portraits. Portraying a picture of a world where disorder reigns yet sanctuary is paramount.

We will find that haven, secure it and then create an uproar. Be part of our revolution.

Come, walk with us, in our shoes..

My collection is based on the Original Illustrations of “Alice in Wonderland” and “Through the Looking Glass”.
I took aspects from both stories to inspire my choices for textures, shapes, print and fabrics for my Six Piece Couture and the RTW collection.
The bold bright appearance of the Disney interpretation inspired my colour palette.
My Wonderland collection is bright, bold, textured, humorous, cartoony and wonderfully curious.

tweedy1

by Chrissie Nicholson-Wild of Curve Couture
www.curvecouture.co.uk

Forged with traditional English influences ‘Countryphile’ reflects the faded glory of the aristocratic country pile. Rundown and archaic heritage, still faintly gilded around the edges and still profoundly beautiful. Edwardian cut corsets in sensuous leather, classic tailored suits and glorious gowns mixed up with equine fashion, armour and Steampunk detailing. Couture corsetier Chrissie Nicholson-Wild combines elegant engineering with creative costumery in her custom designer corsets and fantasy outfits. Core to the aesthetic of Curve Couture is the transformative affect of the corset, both on the physical body and the psyche of it’s wearer.

Petite Mortelle is a place where Burlesque soul and 20′s twist meet with a touch of Victorian to create an outstanding sweet and macabre dimension. Oriental Lolitas dance in their crystal palaces while elegant geisha poetically swing in melancholic gardens. Sexy curves are adorned by playful frills, laces or cameos. Elegance and doll beauty are primary words in PETITE MORTELLE’s world where femininity becomes an absolute queen.

by Eleanor Rachel Noble

Eleanor_rachel@yahoo.co.uk

Malfunctioning technology, distorted portraits and glitched textures became the main focus for my collection of sportswear. I have used a variety of fabrics, layered over each other – my digital prints reference electronic communications and errors in computer systems. My colour story uses multiple shades of blue through to purple. Use of clear pvc and coloured binding gives focused highlights to outerwear garments and transparent layers reveal underlying patterns.

The Inspiration

After working with disadvantaged teens over the last year, I was inspired by their spirit and creativity. Restrictions caused by broken homes, poor backgrounds or health problems caused them to experiment in dangerous environments. They craved praise and freedom, and once given this they very quickly demonstrated a sense of natural play and stunning inspiration.

I wanted to highlight the importance of safe public spaces where kids can feel free, experiment and play. Skateparks have a social stigma around them that they’re “wild and noisy, contributing to neighbourhood noise pollution and an eyesore” (graffiti etc).

The threatened closure of Southbanks’ Skatepark would be hugely detrimental for these kids and I dedicate this collection to them.

I got on the bus

He gave me a bouquet.. a brown paper bouquet

I looked inside

The bouquet was full of dried flowers

I dropped one stem at a time

One.. by one… onto the floor

I was soon covered with flowers

Fallen petals and leaves covered my body and the floor

I found one fresh bright pink flower

Oh, it was so alive that it looked as if it were dancing

I opened my eyes…

It was you.

Korean women dream symbolic dreams about the children they are about to have. My birth dream story inspired me and became the base of my collection.

I wanted to deliver the dramatic imagery in a sustainable way- minimizing off cuts by puzzle-like pattern cutting, using 100% biodegradable materials such as washable Kraft paper, press-dried flowers, Hanji, Bio-resin, and Korean silks for dressing the deceased.

This collection was inspired by my past art work and Louise Bourgeois. It is a showcase of how my work is developing and the directions it will go. I use pre-owned men’s suit jackets or blazers as a blank canvas to create unique, one off wearable art for men or women. I received funding from Fife Contemporary Art and Crafts/Creative Scotland to create this work. The intention of the Showcase is to bring in commissions and collaborations.

A mini collection exploring two islands that, in spite of their physical distance, find themselves closely linked by similar features. The Japanese cuts, suspended between tradition and futurism, embrace typical fabrics from Sardinia, an island in the middle of the Mediterranean sea. Fabrics such as neoprene and faux leather blend together with the more traditional brocade, following definite lines.
